Batch ball mill
1.Product Introduction
A Batch Ball Mill is a grinding device featuring a horizontal cylindrical rotating structure. Its core component is a rotatable cylinder filled with grinding media, such as steel or ceramic balls. Unlike continuous ball mills, the batch ball mill operates on a "batch-by-batch" basis: a specific amount of material is loaded into the cylinder, ground for a set duration, and then discharged all at once.
This mode is ideal for small-batch production, diverse product lines, or scenarios requiring high grinding precision. The structure typically includes a feeding device, a rotating part, a transmission system (motor and reducer), and a discharge unit. The inner walls are lined with wear-resistant materials (such as manganese steel, rubber, or ceramics) to protect the shell and enhance efficiency. These mills support both dry and wet grinding, achieving fineness levels of over 100 mesh (), with high-end models capable of reaching the micron scale.
2.Application
Batch Ball Mills are widely used in industries with stringent requirements for particle fineness and uniformity:
Mining & Metallurgy: Fine grinding and pretreatment of ores like gold, copper, graphite, and aluminum.
Construction Materials: Grinding cement raw meal, clinker, silicate products, and innovative building materials.
Chemicals & Ceramics: Grinding and mixing ceramic raw materials (feldspar, quartz, clay), pigments, catalysts, and chemical reagents.
New Material R&D: Used in laboratory or pilot-scale phases for mechanical alloying, nanomaterial preparation, and lithium battery material pretreatment.
Pharmaceuticals & Food: Suitable for dry grinding requiring high cleanliness, such as pharmaceutical ingredients and food additives.
Environment & Recycling: Resource recovery treatment of electronic waste, slag, and tailings.
3.Working Principle
The operation of a Batch Ball Mill relies on the synergy of impact and attrition:
Feeding: Material is fed uniformly into the cylinder through the feeding device via a hollow shaft.
Rotational Grinding: Driven by a motor, the cylinder rotates slowly (typically 15–36 rpm). The internal media are carried to a certain height and then fall under gravity, exerting a powerful impact to crush the material.
Frictional Attrition: Simultaneously, the relative sliding and rolling between the balls and the cylinder walls create shearing and frictional forces that further refine the particles.
Discharge: Once the desired fineness is reached, the material is discharged through the grate or outlet. In double-chamber models, material moves through a partition for secondary fine grinding to ensure uniform particle size.
4.Advantages
High Grinding Precision: By controlling grinding time and media ratios, it produces high-fineness products with a narrow particle size distribution, perfect for high-value-added materials.
Operational Flexibility: Supports both dry and wet processes and allows for easy material changeover between batches, making it ideal for multi-variety, small-batch production.
Energy Efficient: Equipped with variable frequency motors and optimized transmission systems, the starting current is low, reducing energy consumption by 15%–30% compared to traditional equipment.
Reliable Structure: Features a stable integrated or independent design with low failure rates. Key components are made of cast steel, and replaceable liners make maintenance straightforward.
Strong Adaptability: Capable of handling materials with Mohs hardness levels of 6–7. It typically accepts feed sizes up to 25mm and can adjust discharge fineness to below 0.075mm.
Safe & Eco-Friendly: Wet grinding effectively suppresses dust, and the enclosed design prevents material contamination and loss.
