Coltan and Tantalum ore jig separator
1.Product Introduction Jigger machine
Coltan (short for columbite-tantalite) is a metallic ore from which the elements niobium and tantalum are extracted. Tantalum is a critical raw material for high-performance capacitors used in smartphones, laptops, aerospace, and medical devices due to its high melting point, extreme corrosion resistance, and excellent capacitive properties.
2.Application Jigger machine
The Jig Separator is a core component in Coltan and tantalum beneficiation circuits, primarily used in the following scenarios:
Alluvial Deposit Processing: Specially suited for recovering naturally high-density tantalite particles from riverbed sediments.
Hard-Rock Ore Pre-concentration: Following crushing and grinding, it provides preliminary enrichment for ores with particle sizes ranging from 0–50mm, improving the efficiency of downstream processes like shaking tables and magnetic separation.
Polymetallic Mineral Sorting: Capable of processing mixed ores containing heavy minerals such as tungsten, tin, gold, titanium, and niobium, enabling the simultaneous recovery of multiple valuable metals.
Industrial-Scale Beneficiation Plants: Acts as a key link in large-scale tantalum-niobium plants, working in tandem with vibrating screens, shaking tables, and magnetic separators.
3.Working Principle Jigger machine
The core principle of a Jig Separator is stratification by density. The process unfolds as follows:
Feeding: Crushed Coltan ore is mixed with water to form a slurry, which enters the jig’s sorting chamber uniformly.
Pulsating Water Flow: The equipment generates an asymmetric vertical pulsating water flow (such as a sawtooth wave) through mechanical or pneumatic means. This involves a rapid upward stroke and a slower, longer downward stroke.
Stratification Effect: Under the influence of the pulsating water, high-density tantalite particles (density approx6.5–8.5 g/cm³) settle quickly and accumulate at the bottom of the bed. Low-density gangue (such as quartz, density approx 2.6 g/cm³) is lifted by the water to the upper layer.
Discharge: The high-density concentrate at the bottom is discharged through a concentrate port, while the light tailings at the top exit via an overflow weir.
Technical Highlight: Advanced jigs (such as the LTA series) utilize conical diaphragms and multi-chamber designs to enhance water penetration, significantly improving the recovery rate of fine-grained minerals.
