wet grinding ball mill for mineral ore
1. Product Introduction
A Wet Grinding Ball Mill is a piece of essential efficiency equipment used to grind crushed mineral ores (such as gold, copper, iron, lead-zinc, etc.) into a fine slurry. Unlike dry grinding, wet grinding involves adding water or other liquids to the process, creating a mixture that passes through the mill.
It is widely utilized in beneficiation plants, chemical industries, and cement production. The machine typically consists of a feeding part, a discharging part, a rotary part (cylinder, gears, and motor), and a transmission part. The inner shell is lined with wear-resistant materials (like high-manganese steel or rubber) to protect the drum from erosion and impact.
2. Working Principle
Compared to dry grinding, wet grinding offers several significant technical and economic benefits when processing mineral ores:
Higher Grinding Efficiency: Water acts as a natural dispersant. It prevents fine particles from sticking together or forming a cushioning layer on the grinding balls, allowing for continuous, high-efficiency milling.
Lower Energy Consumption: Because the slurry flows easily and experiences less internal friction than dry powder, wet mills require about 20% to 30% less power per ton of material processed.
Uniform Particle Size: Wet grinding excels at producing an ultra-fine product. It allows for easier configuration with hydraulic classifiers or hydrocyclones to strictly control the final particle size distribution.
Better Environmental Health & Safety: The presence of water eliminates dust emissions during the milling process, drastically improving the workshop working environment and reducing the risk of respiratory hazards for operators.
Simplified Material Handling: Transporting the final product as a slurry via pumps and pipes is much easier and cheaper than conveying dry, abrasive powders.
3. Industrial Line Advantages
The working principle of a wet ball mill relies on impact and attrition (friction).
Step-by-Step Process:
Feeding: The mineral ore, along with a specified ratio of water, is continuously fed into the rotating cylinder through the hollow shaft at the feed end.
Rotation & Lifting: As the cylinder rotates, centrifugal force and friction between the internal liners and the grinding media (steel balls) lift the balls and ore upward along the rising side of the drum.
Grinding Action: * Impact: When the balls reach a certain height (the apex), gravity overcomes the centrifugal force, causing them to cascade or fall back down onto the material below, crushing the larger ore pieces via impact.
Attrition: As the balls roll down the slope and slide against each other, the ore trapped between them is ground finer by friction and shearing forces.
Discharging: The continuous inflow of new material forces the existing slurry toward the discharge end. Depending on the mill type (overflow or grate type), the sufficiently ground fine slurry either overflows out through the hollow journal or passes through a discharge grate.
