Rotary drum dryer for quartz sand
1.Product Introduction
A Rotary Drum Dryer (also known as a rotary dryer) is highly efficient industrial drying equipment widely used in the metal casting and foundry industries.
Foundry sand (such as silica sand, chromite sand, or ceramsite sand) must be thoroughly dried and heated to precise temperatures before it can be used in core-making and molding processes. Residual moisture in the sand can lead to casting defects like blowholes, porosity, and poor surface finish. The rotary drum dryer is specifically engineered to handle large capacities of wet sand, reducing its moisture content to less than 0.5% to ensure optimal casting quality.
2.Application
Optimized for Gasification: Uniformly lowers moisture to prevent syngas dilution, excessive tar formation, and thermal fluctuations inside the gasifier.
Deep Core Drying: Features robust internal lifting flights that thoroughly cascade heavy wood chips, ensuring heat penetrates deeply to the core of each piece without scorching the surface.
High Industrial Durability: Built with a reinforced steel shell and wear-resistant components to reliably handle massive daily volumes in continuous 24/7 energy plant environments.
3.Working Principle
Wet foundry sand is continuously fed into the dryer drum via a belt conveyor or screw feeder. The drum is installed at a slight incline (typically 1.5% to 3%) to allow gravity to assist the movement of the sand from the feed end to the discharge end.
As the drum rotates, internal lifting flights scoop up the sand and shower it down through the interior space.
Depending on the setup, a burner generates hot air that flows either in the same direction as the sand (co-current flow) or in the opposite direction (counter-current flow).
The cascading sand creates a uniform "curtain" of material, ensuring intimate contact with the hot flue gas. This rapidly evaporates the surface and internal moisture of the sand.
Once the sand reaches the lower end of the inclined drum, it is fully dried and discharged.
The Dry Sand: Directed to a cooling fluidized bed or directly to storage silos.
The Exhaust Gas: Carries away the evaporated moisture along with fine sand dust. This exhaust is pulled by an induced draft fan into a cyclone separator and a baghouse filter to trap the fine dust before the clean air is vented into the atmosphere.
