Lightweight expanded clay aggregate (LECA) production kiln

 

1.Product Introduction Calcination Rotary Kiln

The LECA Production Kiln is a specialized high-temperature rotary kiln designed to transform raw clay into Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate. By precisely controlling temperature profiles and material kinetics, the kiln facilitates the dehydroxylation and crystalline expansion of clay, creating porous spherical pellets. This process significantly enhances the material's lightweight properties, thermal insulation, and structural stability. The equipment utilizes an inclined cylinder and a slow-rotation mechanism to ensure uniform heating and prevent performance degradation caused by localized overheating.

 

2.Application Calcination Rotary Kiln

  • Construction Industry: Used to produce lightweight concrete, blocks, and precast components. It reduces structural dead loads and improves thermal insulation for residential, commercial, and bridge engineering.

3.Working Principle Calcination Rotary Kiln

  • Preheating & Drying: Raw clay passes through a preheater to remove surface moisture. A gentle temperature gradient prevents particle bursting and ensures the stability of subsequent reactions.

  • High-Temperature Expansion: As the material enters the high-temperature zone (approximately 1200°C), internal organic components burn off, forming thousands of tiny gas bubbles. This causes the clay to "bloat" or expand into a porous structure while undergoing phase transformation.

  • Cooling & Solidification: The clinker is rapidly cooled to stabilize the pore structure. The rotation of the kiln body moves the material axially, creating a continuous tumbling interface that ensures uniform pellet size and density.
